Who remembers when Benedict Cumberbatch famously took to the stage door of the Barbican to urge fans not to take photos during the Hamlet play?

This video has been viewed over 1,000,000 times in just over two weeks. What makes this video so great is the fact that Cumberbatch is able to stay composed while making a well-articulated point, reminding us that we should remember his performance in our minds rather than on our cameras and phones. Despite discussing an issue that actually affected his performance as an actor (he got distracted to the point that he had to restart the “To be or not to be” soliloquy), he remains completely calm throughout.

His ability to communicate well and make a valid point that actually needed to be addressed and brought to the attention of the audience, without getting angry, are qualities that are invaluable, and can be learnt and built upon at a team building event. One of the key skills you will learn at a team building event that Cumberbatch does so well is how to communicate effectively and use this skill as a powerful tool.

All the team building programs at Simon Greenhill are delivered by trained and experienced actors who have had time to understand the ‘real world’, and so can apply the theatrical techniques and exercises to the corporate or service environment.

So thanks Benedict Cumberbatch for your eloquent rant, because we can all learn a lot from it.
